A major £10 billion data centre campus at Cambois in Northumberland is set to become one of the UK's largest digital infrastructure developments.
The project, being developed by QTS, part of Blackstone, has planning permission for a campus of up to 540,000 square metres. Preparatory works have already begun, with the wider development expected to take place over several years.
The employment impact is significant. Planning and government information indicates around 1,200 long-term construction jobs, alongside hundreds of permanent operational positions once the facilities are completed. The project could also support thousands of additional indirect and induced jobs through the wider supply chain.
The roles associated with a project of this scale extend well beyond traditional IT. Construction managers, electrical and mechanical engineers, commissioning specialists, project managers, security personnel, facilities teams and data-centre technicians will all be required across the development lifecycle.
For recruiters, Cambois demonstrates the scale of the opportunity emerging outside London's traditional data-centre market.
